What these actually are
Instagram does not let you install fonts. What everyone calls an “Instagram font” is ordinary Unicode: separate characters that already look bold, italic or handwritten, which you paste in like any other text. Your profile is still plain text — the letters are just different letters.
That is what makes it work anywhere: in a bio, a caption, a comment, a story, a display name, or in another app entirely.
How to use it
- Type your bio or caption at the top.

- Press Copy when you find one you like.
- Paste it into the bio or caption field in the app.
Compatibility, honestly
No one can promise a particular style will display correctly for every viewer. What you paste is a set of Unicode characters; whether they appear as intended depends on the app, the operating system and the fonts installed on each person's device. Boxed and filled styles are the least predictable, and some apps normalise or reject unusual characters in display names.
Bold, italic, script and small capitals are the most widely supported, which is why they are listed first. Preview before you commit, and check on a phone as well as a desktop if it matters.
Accessibility: worth knowing before you post
Screen readers do not recognise these characters as ordinary letters. Depending on the software, a styled bio may be read out character by character, announced by full Unicode name, or skipped entirely. Search does not match them either — someone searching your name in normal letters will not find a styled version.
Use styling for a flourish, and keep the parts people need to read or find — your name, what you do, how to contact you, a link — in ordinary characters.
Character counts
Styled characters usually count the same as plain ones toward a bio limit, but they take more bytes to store, and some platforms count differently. If you are close to a limit, check the exact figure with the Character Counter.
Spacing a bio out
